Day 15 Marrakech – Home

Marrakech-Home

The breakfast at this modern hotel was buffet style and not as tasty as the ones we have become accustomed to. And, oh how we wish they would immerse hard boiled eggs in cold water to make them easier to shell!

It took just a few minutes to pack after breakfast and then we set off to the railway station.  While standing waiting for the airport bus, a taxi pulled up and offered to take us to the airport for the same price as the bus.

Our time in Morocco has been an amazing adventure.  The medieval medinas and their myriads of dusty alleyways, the abundance of impressive architecture and the interaction with the friendly people have all enhanced the experience.

Fez is our favourite city; it is so much less touristy than Marrakech.   Chefchaouen, nestled in the Rif Mountains is so pretty and quaint, like a children’s picture book with its palette of shades of blue.  Aït Benhaddou and the ride through the Atlas Mountains to reach it were both breathtaking.

Our flight was on time and around 15% of the passengers were wearing masks or disposable gloves or both!!  Indeed, the young lady in the seat next to Dave put her mask on,  donned her sunglasses and pulled her baby pink sweatshirt hood over her head and forehead.  As soon as the flight was airborne she moved further down the plane to an empty row of seats.

Of course, this was all due to the corona virus.  On arrival in Athens, the usual bustling airport was the emptiest we had ever seen.  While waiting for our connecting flight we heard the news that Greece’s schools and universities were to be closed due to the virus.  I think we returned home at the right time

Little did we know that it would be quite a while before we would be travelling again…
