We took the 8.30am bus into Skopelos Town. After wandering along the harbour front, we climbed steeply upwards to visit the two or three white churches which we saw seemingly clinging to the cliff when we got our first glimpse of the island from the ferry.

The white churches are beautiful with small circular domes and fish scale slate tiles, the views from the churches were absolutely stunning.

Unfortunately, the churches were locked, as were the majority of the other ones which we came across as we were walking around the island’s main town. The guide books tell of 123 churches in Skopelos Town which we were rather surprised to read.
Walking past one small church we saw the door open and a lady waving a thurible backed out, she wafted the incense around the entrance and then went back inside. We followed her in and she continued to wave the incense around the church.

The iconostasis was clearly very old and the church warden confirmed that it was constructed during the 1600’s. I mentioned what our guide book had stated regarding the number of churches in Skopelos. She told us that the book was indeed incorrect and that there were many more!

As we walked around the town, up and down steps, in and out of narrow whitewashed streets, admiring the old wooden balconies, the old well maintained properties and the tastefully renovated ones, we noticed many bottles of water on window sills and doorsteps.
We were curious about these numerous bottles of water and came up between us with various reasons for their existence. In the end, I decided to ask a passer by… They were there simply to clean up after the many cats.
We found a travel office and booked our tickets for tomorrow and also managed to find a bank which we could use.
Slowly, we meandered a little more in the direction of the seafront and we were surprised when we came out of the ‘whitewashed village’ directly opposite the bus station. We sat and had a coffee close by and then noticed a queue forming for a bus, so we contemplated getting a bus elsewhere and exploring more. The bus, however, was the one back to Panormos so we returned to ‘our little beach’.
After a light lunch at a kantina type place, we followed a very similar relaxing pattern to yesterday.
The sunset was glorious again this evening.

After sunset, we walked along the beach just a few steps to a taverna named BLO. We ordered a tasty meal and sat wondering where we would be eating tomorrow evening and indeed, where we would be sleeping!
